Hi Mom!
This past week was good. We had a lot of fun! Last thursday night we decided we were going to clean out the fridge cause there was just a lot of old food in there and it was starting to mold up and smell. so, during our lunch we just deeeeeeeeep cleaned the fridge and we had 5 trash bags full of gross stuff to throw out and we planned on taking it all out on our way out. So, we left the apartment for the day and when we got home at around 9:15 we opened the door and there was this over whelming smell of GROSSNESS!!! ya know what? we forgot to take the 5 trash bags out to the dumpster. It smelt so gross so we ran the trash out and then came back in and sprayed perfume aaaalllll over the apartment. Then, we got headaches from it smelling too strong of perfume. Note to self, do not procrastinate taking out the trash. Lesson learned. We also had dinner with Hna. Baltizar last week and she gave us this box of chocolates and we were so excited to eat them when we got home, during our planning. We got home from a long hard day of tracting in the FREEZING cold and we were so excited to open that box of chocolates. Before looking at the experation date, we both took a piece of chocolate and shoved it in our mouths! bad idea. Another lesson learned, check the experation dates on all foods. Guess what, that chocolate was about 5 years old. SOOOOO gross!!! The thought of her was so nice, but can you imagine if we actually ate it all, we'd be soooo sick. So, major bummer that night! nooooo chocolates for us!
We had zone conference this past friday and it was so awesome! I love zone conferences! And, the longer you've been out the better they are because you get to see all these missionaries that you've served around before or that are serving in one of your past areas and you get to find out whats going on with the area and the investigators! And of course, you always recieve revelation there too. President Sagers is such a good mission Pres!!! He is so smart and i could just sit there and listen to him all day long. He always says these quotes that are hilarious and my favorite one that he said ths week was....."The Lord destrories the wicked and scares the hell out of the righteous". He is so funny. Maybe you had to be there to hear him say it, or know him to know his dry sense of humor but it went down in my quote book. He is seriously the best mission president ever!
Sooo, im pretty sure i wrote home about this, but if i didnt here's a quick recap. A few weeks ago while we were out tracting, i prayed to find a family who wanted to hear the gospel and get baptized. That same night, I got a call from a man. His name is Francisco Leon. He is soooo adorable!! ok, so this is what happened. He called us and said he wanted to come to our church in spanish. That he had gone to the english ward and liked it but he didnt understand any of it! So, he came to church and we've been teaching him and no he's getting baptized on saturday!!!! Thats the long story short. Theres other AWESOME details in there but thats the pretty summed up version. He and his wife, Teresa, are getting baptized this saturday and they were for sure ready to hear the gospel. This was their time to hear it and they accepted it with open arms. They are married!!!!!! actually legally married (this is a miricale for hispanics. their almost never married) and they didnt believe in smoking or drinking or even tea. However, they did drink coffee. But, once we explained to them that we dont drink coffee, they gave it up. that very next morning. just gone, cold turkey. They are so excited about their baptism. They call me and Hna. Snow thier little Angelitas, little angels. That or her little ninas, her little girls. She told us that she's always wanted to have a little girl and now that she found us, she feels that she finally got 2 little daughters. She cant say "powell" and the first time she tried she said "i dont like your last name" and i laughed and said "its ok, i dont either. you can call me something else" so, now she calls me "pow" just pow. I haven never met a hispanic here that has been able to say powell. its ALWAYS "paula" with a thick mexican accent. After a few times of trying to correct them, i just go by Hna. Paula. But, its not said like the english name paula they pronounce it more like "pow" and "la". its the double L that throws em all off. I never liked this dang last name of ours!
I love you mom!!
